Historically the Signet featured a family crest which was an emblem or monogram to sign legal documents. The ring was used with hot sealing wax to seal letters, this was like a 3-d signature. These rings, with the hallmarks on the outside of the ring enlarged, rather the on the inside, combined with the wearers chosen initial in old gothic font is a play on a classical ring. Hallmarking in this country is 700 years old, and the leopards head is exclusive to this city's assay office.
